Admission to the Empire State College graduate program is selective.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to gather supporting credentials and submit completed materials.

If you do not wish to have your Social Security number used for identification and record keeping purposes, Empire State College will assign a student identification number.

International Students - Please note that Empire State College cannot issue I-20s for F1-Visas except in the case of Canadian Border Students. International students may apply to and enroll, if admitted, to any of the graduate degrees or certificates that we offer totally online.

Official transcripts – Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all institutions attended are submitted to the Admissions Office. Transcripts from a non-U.S. institution must be evaluated by a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). Empire State College graduates do not need to request a transcript. One will automatically be placed in their application folder.

Essays – Required essay(s) specific to the degree program.

Current Empire State College undergraduate students applying for combined bachelor's/master's degree programs must have one recommendation from their primary mentor.

Entrance Exams - The M.A. in Teaching requires submission of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies (MAT). Applicants with an advanced degree (e.g. MA, MSW, PhD, EdD, JD) from a regionally accredited college or university may request a waiver from the graduate admissions exam along with an official transcript documenting their degree. Waiver requests should be sent to The School for Graduate Studies (Grad@esc.edu).

The School for Graduate Studies will accept the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores taken within the last three years. You must score within the range of 79-94 on the TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT), or 6.5-7 on the IELTS to be considered for admission to the Empire State College graduate degree programs.
